Longest shipping piece
Request overall dimensions after protection and blocking. Check the proposed container door opening and handling clearances with the forwarder.
Use these preliminary schedules to ask suppliers for an initial comparison. Dimensions are example RFQ inputs. Supplier engineering and local review establish the ordered package.

| Parameter | 18 m shop shell | 30 m storage shell |
|---|---|---|
| Clear span | 18 m | 30 m |
| Indicative eave height | 6 m | 8 m |
| Trial bay spacing | 6 m | 7.5 m |
| Opening allowance | Service door on long wall | Loading doors at selected bays |
Keep the dimensions fixed until both bids have identified steel grade, frame geometry and connection type. Ask the supplier to provide column and rafter section schedules with the same revision number as the general arrangement. A shift in bay spacing can change purlin quantities and erection sequencing even when the building footprint is fixed.
For a frame split for transport, a bolted field splice may shorten the longest piece and shift work to the erector. A shop-welded assembly shifts fitting and inspection to the supplier but may need a different shipment plan. Ask both bidders for the connection drawing, shipping length and field inspection steps. Measure the protected piece at its widest points and compare the recorded dimensions with the proposed container opening and loading path.
Request overall dimensions after protection and blocking. Check the proposed container door opening and handling clearances with the forwarder.
Ask for gross bundle weight, lift points and centre of gravity. Confirm the destination crane can reach the planned landing location at that weight.
Request a loading plan that assigns every piece mark to a container and shows container type, gross load and the order in which packages should be removed.
Download the checklists and attach them to the brief. The quote comparison sheet has fields for supplier exclusions and drawing revisions. If a supplier needs a transport splice to meet an agreed shipping limit, ask for the joint location, hardware list and site assembly scope as a separate commercial line before placing an order.
Reference one schedule and note the dimensions or openings you need to change. Mark tentative inputs so suppliers can price them as options.
